Sidirokastro to Palio Kavala – 150km
After losing another hour of sleep (2 hours ahead of the UK but same time as South Africa) we woke at 7.30am (actually 6.30am on the old time). I felt rubbish so decided to go for a walk with a stiff back and painful knee. I felt a bit of a wreck to say the least but I have to try and maintain some strength following my operation. It is hard as I have no gym or pool and have to improvise (must get my brothers prison cell fitness program!) a lot to keep my hip fairly well

exercised.
We set off towards Kavala and then headed south to Amfipoli east of Thessalonia. We tried to get on the motorway to Kavala but there is no way of getting onto the roads. Instead you drive under or over them. They seem to have a major problem with the highways and many of them are unfinished, perhaps just run out of money.
By default or perhaps my navving just isn’t up to scratch, we ended up on the coastal road – 2 – south west of Kavala. This was lovely and Nic found our first 4×4 track where we stopped and had lunch and Lily threw stones into the sea. It was a lovely 14 degrees but certainly too cold to swim.
We get to Villa Nickolas and checked in. Lovely hotel.
Sleeping by 9.30pm, well Nic is anyway…
